Welcome to Catharsis, a trauma-informed mental health and wellness blog that goes beyond psychology and integrates health, wellness, and therapeutic practices to begin and continue your healing process. Hi! My name is Cait Hemphill, I created Catharsis to document my lifestyle, as I heal from trauma. Currently, I am a master’s student in my second year of a clinical counseling program in the Pittsburgh area. By combining my undergraduate degree in Health Services with my current education in Clinical Psychology, I have come to believe in a holistic approach to working through trauma, and learn more about how we can feel healthier in every aspect of our lives. Having had personal experience living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), as well as participating in treatment methods like Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EDMR therapy) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP therapy), I understand how healing is an ongoing process and not a quick fix solution. Catharsis is a safe space dedicated to providing psycho-education, resources, and inspiration to empower survivors on their healing journey. By speaking openly about mental health we can overcome the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Please join me in this journey to learn about ourselves, explore shared experiences, and promote awareness of how trauma affects our lives as we continue to overcome it.
